New holotypes in the collection of Museum of Amber Inclusions

Museum of Amber Inclusions, established in 1998, is intergral part of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Entomology and Museum of Amber Inclusions, Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Parasitology at Faculty of Biology University of Gdańsk. The Museum collection enriched recently with subsequent holotypes – the specimens on which scientific names are based, in this case – extinct dipterans preserved as inclusion in the Eocene Baltic amber. Holotypes and paratypes are the most precious specimens in scientific collections, Museum of Amber Inclusions houses now 82 type specimens. Newly described species, enriching the MAI collection are Coquilletidia adamowiczi Szadziewski, Sontag et Szwedo, 2019 and Coquilletidia gedanica Szadziewski, Sontag et Szwedo, 2019, representing dipteran family of mosquitoes (Culicidae). Priviledge of authors of scientific names is possibility to honor persons and places. Therefore, specific patronym C. adamowiczi is dedicated to the late President of City of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz, supporting the status of Gdańsk as World Amber Capital and activities of World Amber Council, under Presidency of Professor Ryszard Szadziewski. Second specific epithet C. gedanica memorises City of Gdańsk and Bay of Gdańsk, where deposits of the Eocene Baltic amber are placed.
