How to obtain an MSCA postdoctoral grant? SEA-EU Alliance informational meeting

SEA-EU invites you to an info session where you will learn how to apply for MSCA-PF and what to look out for in particular. MSCA expert Angie Mifsud from the University of Malta will give an overview of the programme. Additionally, experts from all nine SEA-EU partners will present their own universities and research profiles. 

Arctic seabird colony effect on marine benthos described by researchers from Dept. of Vertebrate Ecology and Zoology

A new article entitled
“Bottom-up effects of seabird colonies on Arctic benthic communities mediated by kelp forests” has been published in Ecosystems (Springer).
Authors include Katarzyna Zmudczyńska-Skarbek and Adrian Zwolicki from Dept. of Vertebrate Ecology and Zoology, in collaboration with researchers from the Institute of Oceanology, Polish Academy of Sciences (Sopot): Piotr Bałazy, Maciej Chełchowski, Piotr Kukliński, Zuzanna Opalińska, and from Université de Liège (Belgium): Gilles Lepoint.

Two species new to science described by a team of researchers from the Laboratory of Lichenology and Experimental Mycology, Department of Taxonomy and Nature Conservation

The article entitled ‘Fungal diversity notes 2017–2122: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to freshwater fungi and other fungal taxa’ was published in Fungal Diversity: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13225-025-00560-3. IF 24,8.

It contains a description of two species new to science, Cora dalfornoae and Parmelia neosaxatilis, authored by Prof. Martin Kukwa, Dr Beata Guzow-Krzemińska, Dr Magdalena Kosecka, Dr Magdalena Oset and Dr Emilia Ossowska.

Department of Biology - a member of the Tropical Biology Association

Our department has become a member of the Tropical Biology Association. The membership gives our students the opportunity to participate in tropical ecology courses organized by the Society (in Uganda for example) and to receive discounts on participation fees.

Doctoral student position (Preludium Bis project)

We are looking for a Ph.D. student to work and study at the Department of Bacterial Molecular Genetics, University of Gdansk in Poland. The doctoral  project, entitled “Deciphering elements of the global transcriptional network governing Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation”, will be realised in international collaboration with Dr. Manuel Banzhaf (Newcastle University, currently University of Birmingham, UK).
